So I have been driving my 'new' series 3 and I have notices that it squeaks when you pull away in 1st and also when you are in 3rd.. It seems to go away when you give it some beans.. but it might just be that you can't hear it over the rest of the noise.. does anyone know what this could be?

It also appears to have some leaks, which I understand that are generally accepted as normal with a landrover, but I would like someone to have a look at the pics I took, since there seems to be leaks with the front wheel swivel things and the gearbox thing.. Leaks - Imgur

The charge light came on when I was driving home from work last night, I looked in the manual but it didnt really say what it means other than it is the charge light.. I assume it could be an alternator issue?

Also when you start it up you have to keep your foot on the accelerator or it stalls, which makes the first few junctions interesting until it warms up.. I'm guessing this might be a carb issue? (I'm not mechanically minded at all, bought this to learn!)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

the charge light thing is an alternator issue ( check all wiring connections are tight and clean before getting a new one )

the leaks are not such a major problem more than its just marking its territory

the struggle with the warmup theres a screw with a spring on it on the right hand side of the carb as you look at it from the passengers side wing

with the engine running turn this screw towards you verry slightly then try it the next morning if this doesnt work search on here about carbourettor refurbishing ( theres loads of threads on here about that

if you havent already put some new sparkplugs and leads on that engine ( shell run a feck of a lot better for it )

The squeak could be a binding brake - you've got a choice of 5.
Oil leaks are OK as long as you're topping up the levels.
Hub leaks can ruin your brakes - possibly a previous owner has adjusted up an oil contaminated brake which is causing the squeak.
Old landys have manual chokes - you'll need to use it in cold weather until the engine warms up.
The charge light says the battery voltage is higher than the alternator voltage - ie you're discharging rather than charging the battery. Check the belt is tight but it's probably a buggered alternator.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have been using the choke but it still stalls. I will have a look at the other things. :)
