Hi!
I have struggeled a lot with leaking injectors. I change the Seal ring with no luck. Some her point at the pipes can leak, but they are verry dry and it is only diesel wet at the bottom, well, bottom of what you can see og the injector when installed. Any suggestion anyone?

This is the one thing that really gets to me with the p38. I partially blame the quality of the pipes and partly the concoction they call diesel these days

It's not the diesel, the leak off pipes on my Kubota tractor are about 50 years old and are still fine, on the Transit they 19 years old and just fine, it's crap cheap and nasty German BMW engineering that's at fault.

Resurrecting an old thread, I've been playing whack-a-mole with leak off pipes. I've tried Land Rover parts suppliers, diesel injection specialists, and so on. I've tried the Gates hose (e.g. this) but found the outside diameter too thick to easily/reliably position on all nipples. All have failed within 1-3 months, so far I've changed at least two full sets out in the past 12 months, plus umpteen single lengths on the fly. Having changed the lot again six weeks ago, I've now got a leak off leak at no1 injector...

Is there a known good brand and/or supplier for these?

Just looking at the Tygon pipe mentioned above - yellow strimmer fuel line?

Used the Gates reinforced stuff on mine a few years ago and it still seems fine. It is patterned rather than smooth from the reinforcing.

Although I rate Gates very highly for fuel line, I have always fitted genuine Mercedes spill lines. It's the best quality that I've ever seen, not much more expensive, and lasts for many years.
Fitted to 1980's model Mercedes 240D through to the 1990's E300D 6 cylinder engine code OM606.
Be careful with the injectors as the small steel spill nipples can crack/bend when manhandled.
While you're in there, try to blow through the return line from engine bay back to the tank, with the fuel cap loosened. Just in case it's blocked or restricted.

Great tips, thanks. Hadn't thought of blowing the return line back to the tank. I'll be in by the Mercedes dealer next week, so will get a few metres of hose.

I've found some curved long-nosed pliers great for the job, and tend to take the inlet manifold off for ease of access as some are a pig to align in situ.

There a pain for sure. Impossible to do the job well with the inlet on, gates stuff does go on its just tight to the injector body. I had issues with number one injector leaking hot gasses past the copper washer and softening the leak off until it leaked.
Changed the washer twice with some off ebay but they are rubbish, eventually changed the injector with a sh one and that has sort of fixed it. Still looks a little damp down there but I did fit a spring clip around the nipple of the last in line, that was a bugger to get on!, which also may have helped.

More food for thought, thanks guys. Yes, the Gates hose was really wedged in and I wasn't sure whether it was gripping the nipple or just wedged between nipple and injector body!

I don't have a consistent point of failure, it just seems to leak from any of them at various times, so hopefully the injectors are sealing well.
