I've just picked up my X reg 1.8 petrol Freelander from an abortive visit to the garage! I've had some 'leak' in the front passenger footwell and at the same time noticed that my water level had dropped quite a bit - assumed the two connected but the garage say they can't find a link or leak. No water under vehicle just in the footwell, it is also slightly 'oily/sticky' when you soak it up with paper. Amy ideas, am I mad or is the garage not looking properly??

its probaby yer heater core or the connecting pipes it can be hard to find the leak but if its sticky its probably coolant rather than condensation from the A/C, especially if yer losin water. but i think its a dash out job fer you which is time comsuming. dint be tempted to bung in one of them leak stoppers cos it just wont do

Exactly as Slob says - known problem on Hippoos - Heater radiator core leaking into passenger footwell - its a complete dash dismantle jobby - Stealers time is about 8 hours!

Correctamundo...they probably dont want ta find the leak cos they know its a bitch of a job to replace the heater matrix if its shot

:( Well can't say I'm surprised, despite loving my blue Freebie, it has a habit of getting to worst ailments (new IRD recently...), maybe getting time to say bye, but I'm not convinced that the new version is to my liking. At least I've still got my dear old discovery to fall back on!
