Got the common leaking injector. Can these be succesfully refurbed or should I just get a new one?

Car has done 112K and I am thinking that taking them all out to be checked and cleaned would not be a bad idea. Can some one advise please on what stripping down is required to get them out and what sort of time how to do.

Thank you

A new or second hand 4th injector although I seem to remember someone doing a fix. Try a search.
As for refurbing the injectors, if it's running well, leave them alone, mines on 115K and still going strong. Never tried on the M51, but injectors can be a bugger to get out.

Ok, here's how you clean injectors, this is something you should do if you run Bio SVO or other homemade fuel, by the time the injectors are knackered running on Dino juice you should be looking at pro recon or new injectors

First, remove the injector from the car, you will need a deep 27mm socket, and one with a window in for injector 4

Clamp the injector in a vice and using a ring spanner to separate the 2 halves, this will be tight! They are put together with around 80nm plus been in your engine for a while!!

No you will need to separate the parts from inside, on this one I have a shim stuck inside, hopefully you will not have this issue. After cleaning it came out

now place all the parts into an ultrasonic bath and go have a brew! or 2

before putting all parts back together you will have 4 surfaces that will need to be lapped so they seal, I use 2000grit tapped to a piece of glass, use some diesel as lube

build your injector back up in the vice and tighten the 2 parts back together to 80nm

fit a new copper washer before fitting back to the car ;-) and make sure you do 1 injector at a time!! do not mix up the internal parts from different injectors!

and if it's leaking from the plastic part then buy new, or good second hand

i have just changed all 6 of mine they cost me £36 inc VAT each for a full refurb at a specialist, the time to remove them depends on how tight mine were a bugger to get out as someone had over tightened them ended up swinging on a breaker bar to get them to give the rear 2 are a bugger to get at unless you have long arms took about 2 1/2 hours to change all mine , i removed the ally manifold to give better access it and the black pipe that goes from the airbox to the intercooler was also removed and remember you will need new spill pipe as this has to be removed before you undo them

Got a 27mm Injector socket from local motor factors yesterday for £12.They split a set and ordered a replacement single as I didnt want to buy the 4 set they had so big thank you to them!!!

Got the 4th Injector out and it had been previously covered in epoxy resin and wires where not in great shape, so hot footed down to local independant landy dealer and after haggling got the injector for £150 plus vat....had found some slightly cheapr online but wanted to get it all back together and working!!!

Took the first injector out and it was very clean so decided to put it bak and leave the rest alone!!!

Thanks again guys, invaluable help as always.
