G-day folks,my name is Iain Macc and I have joined this forum tonight (my time) to hopefully have some contact with like minded landrover people. My main interest is my current gearbox project that I'll get into more detail in another post. but in short I broke 5th gear in my discovery 1, 1999 version while traveling from Melbourne to my home in northern victoria. Luckily for me I was still able limp home in fourth gear. I pulled the gearbox out and found that 5th gear broke off at the middle bearing while under load heading up an incline on the Hume highway just short of Seymore. More of that later.
So as I have implied I live in Victoria Australia, but was born in the UK in Portsmouth 59years ago. Never been back but even though I was brought out with my parents when I was 6yrs, I still feel British. Hope you don't mind. Anyway I trained in the australian army as a mechanic but didn't consolidate my training because I got out and got into another profession. But motor mechanical stuff is like a hobby now that I still enjoy doing. I have several vehicles that I keep going, a Zetor tractor 6211, a VZ commodore currently my daily drive, a couple of motor bikes and other farm equipment. I also own a 1967 series 2A ute but it's in storage at the moment.
Thats about it, married with grown up children. and if I can afford it I might retire one day.

Welcome Aboard :)

Nice intro too :) ( Wot he said ^^^ )

And some piccies of the bikes would be good .... we likes piccies ;)

Hello and welcome from me:)
Great introdu.ction too.
What motorcycles do you have?
thanks Flossie, I have two virago motorcycles XV 1000N and the plan with these are to rewire completely the main bike.
I was having electrical issues so I removed the loom and I'm waiting for the time to sit down and join the dots with soldered wire.

Hello and welcome from me:)
Great introduction too.

Thanks Flossie, forgive me if this message is partly repeated some where else. I'm on a learning curve here I haven't participated on a forum like this before and I'm not sure what I'm doing . I wrote out a reply to your message above and added a photo and now I can't see it .
At the risk of looking , I'll outline what I wrote only minutes ago.
I have had a Virago XV1000N , its not a shiny look at me bike but more a "rat" bike of the eighties. But suits me nicely. Currently I've let the rego expire because it needs to be rewired. I decided to rewire following some minor electrical issues and in keeping with the Rat Bike mould I want to reposition electrical components to where I'dlike them. So a full rewire seemed appropriate. I have every thing I need except the time to do it. You will see from the photo its been gathering dust.

Hello and welcome. Nice intro :)
Why on earth would your folks want to leave Portsmouth in the first place? ;)
Oh, and say hello to my Uncle Dave. He's down there too... :D

Thanks Disco1BFG, I put a photo in Flossie's reply I'm assuming that will be accessable by all. There's that learning curve happening.

Cool. Your pic made it aboard too :D - Interesting project - I have a V-Max myself, and quite a lot of Yamaha musical instruments too:) - Bit of a fan of Yamaha stuff ;)

Have a look for the Motorcycle thread on here .... some great pics and projects .... :)
