Fancy representing the forum via a Club Display Stand? It’s a show for us enthusiasts (at last!!!), so it would be good to see you there.

Whoever deals with booking shows … contact me via the website - Home - LandyLive

I think the Overland show is a good idea. But I think this one could be just a tad greedy.

There are plenty of Land Rover shows during the year. What's going to be special about another one?

If the organisation of this is anything like the farcical organisation of the Overland show at Stratford earlier this year, it'd be completely and utterly pointless in having a stand of any description.

No real order to anything at all.
Trade stands, club stands and camping was just one massive free for all field for the most of it!

Well folk can say what they like about me - disorganised, etc. - but nobody can say I'm not an enthusiast. Whether off-road racing, journalism or running events, I've been into the LR scene since the early 80's so have definitely our interests at heart.

Moreover, myself and my team of volunteers may be disorganised, but unlike certain other LR events over the years where all the promoters want to do is extract as much of your hard-earned as possible, it's not my intention to rip people off. The trade stands you mention Mark L are cheap (third of the price of others), the day admission is sensible, the camping is reasonable. Give me the budget that other shows have and I'll show you the slickest operation ever, but of course then I'd have to quadruple the costs for everyone ... but that's just not in my nature so it would never happen.

Grrr!!! Kicking myself, why do I always rise to the bait? Daft!

To be fair on you, your first Overland show at Whaddon? was good.

I really enjoyed it and had all the stands that I wanted to see and more that I didn't realise I wanted to see.

Yes it had teething troubles as i'm sure the Stratford show did, but again it was the first show at a new venue.

You'll always have critics and doom merchants, that's business, so get your PR right and believe in your product and don't let others grind you down.

It's a good show and there is a need for it so keep up the good work, concentrate on your success and make the next one better than the last one.

But remember, greed is only good if you're a banker.

Thanks for the headsup Tom - I passed the link on to my fellow committee members and we'll be having a club stand (DDLRC).

I couldn't make it to the Overland show earlier but our members who went said they thoroughly enjoyed it, so a big thumbs up from us :5bcheers2:

Whaddon??? Whilton Mill you mean, you're thinking of the off-road play days at Whaddon.

Well you're spot on Mr.Kipper, there were teething troubles at Stratford. Of course these were far outweighed by what did go right, but of course that doesn't mean a jot if you're on the receiving end of a cock-up! Thing was there were too many curved gravel walkways, so when I positioned the trade stands alongside them, it made the whole area look a bit of a mess - "No real order to anything at all" as Mark L pointed out. Problem is, when its an empty field it all looks so damn logical, on the day its oh so different!

For LandyLive! and ADVENTURE OVERLAND in 2014 the trade section has been swapped to what was the camping field - a massive rectangular area where a grid pattern can be laid out. This will solve the problem ... I hope!!!

ArticFox - thanks mate. Your mob were a great help last time. Onward and upwards eh?

That's the badger, Whilton. I knew it was a W something.

Also lack of seating for all the fast food joints. That was a bit of a pain juggling me fat boy burger and full fat coke whilst trying to hoover up magma temp fries.

But all in all it was good.

So how have you identified a need for yet another Landy show?

With Billing, Peterborough and Eastnor all taking place in the year and not a million miles from Stratford upon Avon??

For us its easy - we're sick and tired of dealing (read as fighting) with Live Promotions. We're concentrating on Eastnor, Ripley Castle and we'll now give this new one a go. As inferred previously, we also regularly attend the Adventure Overland shows as a club as well.

To be quite frank, Tom's organisation and attitude is miles ahead of Live - I've heavily edited this reply as I went on a bit of a rant :censored: Lets just say we don't rate Live Promotions much

Overland show had some great traders and some interesting, if not overly priced, vehicles, it was very confusing trying to find everything and unfortuanetly we met one hell of a hitler who was parking people up who refused to tell us where the club area was despite having a club stand (well we were meant to) then wouldn't let us reserve space near our camping area for the rest of the club, stating that we should have all arrived together... from all over the country.

Never mind though.

I did think camping tickets were very expensive, but, i've never paid for camping at any other landy show to compare to.

Good luck with the next one :)

I went to Overland this year and i have to say it was a bit sporadic. Like you say; your addressing that next year so hopefully it will be better. Agree with the kipper, not enough seats either. Would have been good to have some seats inside that glass building where the food was.

Also would like to see more auto jumble type stalls. Its all good buying the goodies but not al of us can afford or want to pay the brand new prices. Im sure there must be people who have either surplus stock or old stuff from old expeditions they don't need anymore.

Im sure it will grow and grow and as its not just LR orientated it should have a wider audience. Good luck with that one, i will give it another go in 2014. :)

However I'm really not sure why you though we needed another LR only who though. Obviously stoneleigh didn't happen this year but like kipper said there is the LRO shows and everyone else.

What are you going to offer that others won't or can't?

I will buy a ticket and go if there is a good amount of retailers, jumble and vehicles on show etc.

Will there be an off road course?

I wish you luck though.

Interesting yet constructive comments. I think the one about having 'expedition jumble' is especially a good one. From the start I decided that I wasn't going to have regular autojumble at ADVENTURE OVERLAND, there's other outlets for that, but secondhand sand ladders, roof tents, etc. could well work. Nice one!

Anyway, back to LandyLive! Why? Because I don't believe the big shows are run with the enthusiast in mind. They are run purely for profit, and by that I'm not just talking about paying their way to yield a reasonable profit, I'm talking about making a fortune out of owners. This is nothing new, it's been going on for years. Don't believe for a second that the major shows are run by Land Rover enthusiasts - with the exception of Eastnor, they are not - they are run by event companies whose entire business is financially led. Nothing wrong with companies making money, the country would be akin to a third world state otherwise, but there is massive difference between making a decent living and extracting the urine!

Last year I was charging £10 day admission for adults and free for kids under 16 yrs old, 'others' were charging £18 adults, children were £8. How on earth do they justify this? That is one expensive day out for a family of four! This year because I moved to Stratford Racecourse I had to increase the admission to £12, this really stuck in my throat but I had no choice - racecourses don't come cheap. The same situation applies to camping, it's all wrong.

I won't go on, other than to say that folk have for some strange reason gone along with this situation for years, probably because there haven't been alternatives. All I'm going to do is provide a fun weekend for a reasonable price, its then up to owners to judge for themselves where they want to go. The way things are going, my feeling is that a major show will fall by the wayside this year anyway, you mark my words!

And BTW, if you come across any more little Hitlers, please go to the Event Office so it can get sorted. Ta!
