Hi,

Iv had my Landy for 2 days now and am considering changing the engine...

It has a standard 2.5 Deisel

But was thinking about swapping it for a 200tdi?

I have been quoted a price of 1500 for a fully reconditioned engine and kit needed to do the change.

Can you guys offer any advice to benifits of doing this?

Kind Regards

Tony

Hi,

Its N/A, just want a bit more speed to be honest...

Im going to be using it as my daily drive.

I thought it might give me better fuel ecconomy.

When I first got my 2.5 N/A I considered a more powerfull engine, but after driving it for a while, changing oils, tinking with the fuel timing, and numerous other repairs - I now love my 2.5,and get a lot more power from it than I did when I first got it, and only on the steepest hills do I wish for some extra grunt.

Live with it for a while - you'll have plenty of other repairs to spend your cash on. Wait till you get some majour engine trouble before upgrading:D

Aye wot Gofish sez hang on to yer £1500 you might need it for summat important. Having sed that the summat important could be a new 200TDi engine an the offer'll ave gone.

Why didn't you buy one with a tdi already in? would have bin less hassle. I'd stick with the 2.5n/a until it's knackered then think about changing it.

1500 does seem excessive, but then if your paying £40/hr garage rates it'l soon mount up.

There are a few good Tdi's going for less than £500 on ebay, have just brought a 94K full service history one out of a disco - £120 for the Steve Parker downpipe - leaving plenty for the remaining bits of pipework needed.

what is the chassis like? would the car be worth the new engine? if the car is rusted an things like the chassis & bulkhead is worse for wear than would you be wasting your money and you could end up spending loads on hidden costs!! so i would look at it an work it out! i had a 1986 defender 90 then i rebuilt it fittin a new chassis an bulkhead, disco 200tdi and i lick ov paint and now it look an performs well but if i wanted to sell it i would be at a lost!! so think hard and might just be as easy buying new car!! hope that helps ;)
