Old distributer had a plug on side of it with a red and blue wire going to internal distributer. I have also found a remote amplifier in the dash. ... but has the + coil wire going to it and condenser wire and blue and red from distributor . No spare connections on new amp to take all those wires ...

like this?
So your old and new amplifiers are the same unit, just the new one is piggy backed. In which case it can be removed and make up a pair of wires with mini spade females plugged into the dizzy. Alternatively, wire the piggy backed one to the coil.

Same amp. You just need to join red and black to corresponding terminals in new distributor. Remove piggy back amp and keep it as a spare.

Just to clarify. Your red and black wires are from the face of the amp that mates to the dizzy. It'll be obvious when you unscrew the piggy back one and pull it away from the dizzy body.
It is the same unit, just you're looking at it from the opposite side in your photo + it has a white earth strap on it that wouldnt be necessary when piggy backed

All worked fine ... must admit can not feel any difference from old distribution.. but at least this one is nice and shiny ! ... cheers for all your help

So do you mean it's running now but still with the issues you described in your original post?
Also, you say you've recently acquired it. Did it ever run right or did you buy it like this?

Was advertised as running fine but only off road use but had an mot , we went to view it and drove it briefly as seemed to be stuck in low ratio , so only around a carpark . we then had it delivered . On its first drive seemed to be rough and bogging down with acceleration , rev at standstill seemed to be ok was just in gear and under throttle .

so what I have learnt from you and other forums is ....!!! learn how to check things rather than just go out and buy new !!!!

We purchased :
new maf sensor
petrol temp sensor
leads
plugs
rotor arm
distributer cap
whole new distributer
timing adjusted numerous times ....
compression tested all ways possible ....

The fault ....... 2 injectors blocked ... removed them all cleaned them through with carb cleaner , cleaned plenum , cleaned idler , and put it all back together .
ran much better , smoother , cleaner . I do feel that maybe might need a tune for air / petrol etc as I moved / adjusted everything I could think of with a large hammer .

We had a swb 3.9 efi a while back with a 5 speed gearbox , it went really well and very attentive with throttle to the floor . Maybe this one being an auto just makes it a bit less attentive !? , but seems to be running fine with all my new parts !!! .

So before you start spending a small fortune on new bits ... test properly the bits you have !!!!! .... lesson learnt .

cheers

My next issue .... is the swb 3.5 efi we have .

Will only start well after tdc ...... try and adjust it to anywhere near tdc and just dies . Tdc @ 12pm ... only runs @ 3pm ......... but runs iratic , feeling of head gasket issue though so have ordered a tester kit .

compression readings are

1.........175
2.........150
3...........170
4...........155
5............175
6...........155
7........175
8........155
