Hi im tom im new to these forum jobbies so dont really know what im doing haha :)

I have a 1974 series 3 with a 2.25 4pot slug under the bonnet, i also own a 1994 mitsubishi l200 pick up truck ( dont worry didnt give any pennies for it, it was free )

I was wondering if it was possiable to take the 2.5 turbo desiel out of the mitsubishi and put it in my landy,

Does anybody know if the mitsubishi engine will match the landy transmission? or will i have to use the mitsubishi gear box and transfer box and make a shorter prop shaft?

any replies are welcome :)

I will bet you a pound to a penny there's a conversion kit to do just that!

Usually a special bell-housing that is Landy at the gearbox end and Mitsubishi at the engine end. There may be a few bits needed to get the clutch working, but the general plan is to use a Landy Centre plate with the engine's clutch cover and flywheel .

The kit might cost a bit. In fact it might cost about as much as someone would sell you a Landy 2.5NA diesel engine for. You get my drift?

Yeah if the price of a conversion kit is expensive it's hardly worthit. I reckon one of the best conversions is the 200TDi but remove the turbo.. - you can use a standard series radiator, and obv without the turbo you dont need to faff about with the intercooler and so on. Slightly more power than a 2.25 petrol and pretty good economy.

thanks for the replies, i mite save my pennies up and get me a 200tdi, would i still have to get a conversion kit for that? or will it be a straight swap? i dont mind changing gearbox and transfer box aswel to be honest they are getting abit wurry and clunky.

Why not fit a good 2.5NA?

They go well, and they are pretty tough too.

Once the Injection pump is timed nicely a 2.5NA will cruise 70.

Ask Discomania if he will sell his 2.5NA 15J Sherpa engine from his Def90.

If Hybridgirl was still speaking to us she has a 2.5NA taking up space on my shed floor.
I want rid of it soon. Any bidders? Complete ready to run except no starter motor.

Why not a 2.5 Diesel NA? Well I just see it as pretty pointless. For me to change an engine it needs to be worthwhile the time, money and effort. The 2.5 Diesel is less powerful than the 2.25 petrol, and the MPG for the 2.5 Diesel is 23-28. If I was going to change an engine for economy puroposes, I would want it into the 30s (people have said the 200TDI in a series landie will get 35MPG with ease)

ive got a 90 waiting to be rebuilt that has a 2.5 Diesel NA aleardy in it, i was originally puttin that engine into my series but i cannot get the fooking thing running, its been sat for about 3 years and when trying to start the crimps on the starter are glowing red hot, so i changed the starter and it still did the same so i checked and tightened all the negative connections and it still did it, so i thourght **** it drag it behind a disco and it wouldnt even bump start so just left it in the field. so abit confuzzled on that one and the haynes manual has been launched onto the barn roof in rage ahh well :(

Did the engine even turn over when you towed it?

FUel supply problem then.

At lest the engine isn't seized.

Easy fix. Chase the fuel through all the way from the tank filler neck to the injectors.
