The final bit of footage from my recent day in Mid Wales. Ever since we crossed Nort 4x4 coming up the Pheasant Steps last year, I’ve wanted to do that myself. Those guys were in much higher specced trucks than us and even they took some damage doing it so I guess you can say we were apprehensive about it. As it turns out it was just a good challenging drive and we all got up it OK. Well I say OK, I’m fairly sure that did for my panhard rod bushes and I ended up needing to get recovered as the Defender 110 wouldn’t go over 20MPH without rattling my teeth out!

Heh, I was in my Disco with AT tyres and HD springs, no lifts or anything really when you saw us! OK, diff guards and square tube sills for rocksliders, but nothing else .. ;)

But you were the only one like that weren't you? I remember we all commented on how tricked up your trucks were? An one of your guys lost a diff or something didnt they and had the be towed through the bomb hole.

Yeah, think I was .. ;)

Bob blew his front diff .. Rik came back down and towed him all the way back up! We repaired it at the side of the flatter areas on top!!

Lovely route though, great doing the steps up, just pick a line and do it trials style without stopping worked for me .. ;)

Yeah, probably the best area for tight lanes with relatively little hassle from others. Certainly the easiest place to get wild camping without anyone even knowing you're there!

I have to say the steps are looking a whole lot better than they did a couple of years ago.

There was some horrible off piste activity going on at one point.

Another nice vid. :)

Don't be too proud of your Land Rovers and Disco's, I took my completely stock Jimny over the steps last summer with no problems.. :) Not sure I'd try after heavy rain,, but in the dry everything went like clockwork.

There's the difference then. Bit o rain wouldn't have worried us!

Jimnys are fairly capable. I've towed a lot of them out of the mud! :D

A pleasure to watch that video! What a grand day out you guys had...apart from the bushes. A question: Do, or can, Disco 2's suffer the same way with the panhard rods. Just building up my knowledge base for when mine decides to do something strange. Thanks.

Diff.

It was a weird one for me because that truck is very well maintained and was MOT'd the day before by a bloke I know who is into his Land Rovers. The bush that was in it was a rubber bush that was a week old and it just failed! Stuck a poly bush back in and that should be fine forever, or as near as dammit. Don't believe its a common problem at all. Just bad luck or bad batch of bushes!
