Land Rover series 3

Maybe you can take the pictures a little further away? its very detailed but I can't see whats what without the other components on the picture.
First you have to find out what line 'blows' and what line 'sucks'.
Have you tried to google for pics of 'land rover series carburettor'?

here I see there's a T-junction on the rockercover:

What blows and sucks may not be quite the same on an old worn engine as on a new one!

I agree about the pics, much too close in to see what is going on.

OP, there should be exploded diagrams of the standard breather setup in a manual or online.

Raytheman you're such a legend. I couldn't find anything like mine before. Now that makes sense! I did have it right with the pipe going to the oil inlet from the sucking vacuum thing!

First photo is of where I had that vacuum thing connected and the second it the oil filler pipe with "overflow" type pipe going to the vacuum.

It did work pretty well when it was connected... I just thought it may have been too smokey..

hey flaibasher that hose that you talking about in the first pic, the rubber hose attached to the carby is for the vacuum advance on the distributor, its a wonder no one has picked up on that one.

Hi kommer, yeah I know it's for the advance, I need to buy the part off of Pegasus parts because that's the only place that sells the tiny hose. As far as I can see! But I chucked the other out as it has been damaged.

Glad you sorted this out. Had a look at my landy. The last picture posted is the correct set up with the crankcase breather pipe going to the vacuum connection. As to why you are getting oil through it is another matter.On a separate point. Do you have a brake servo? If you do it doesn't have a vacuum connection. It should run from the top of the brake servo sitting on top of the master cyclinder to a connection just under where your fuel line goes into the carb.

To be honest the oil has sort of stopped! Which is great news, except the vacuum is now spurting out what looks like exhaust fumes, but I have a feeling that's because I haven't attached the vacuum advance to the carb yet. I need to buy the thin hose from Pegasus.

No I don't have a brake servo unit. It's purely mechanical. Luckily the brakes do work tho so another bit of success. I've been giving my family rides across the field today. So I'm going to order that pipe for the vacuum advance and then sort out connecting the other vacuum properly. At the moment it's just got an old bit of pipe.
