hello

I have a freelander x reg and since I bought it the tailgate window has never worked. The door opens and locks fine, the wiper won’t work, neither does the heated window but the window is up too high so when you close the door it gets slightly pushed out by the lip at the top so that the door closes.

From what I have read on here the window should drop slightly when the doors are unlocked (it doesn’t). When I use the interior button I get an awful scraping noise when the up is pressed and 4 beeps when the down is pressed. The handbook says that the car thinks the window is still open when this happens but it’s not it’s fully raised.

I have disconnected the battery and reconnected it and it’s still the same. Have checked the fuses and they are fine.

When I put the key in the door or hold the unlock key for 2 secs there are scraping noises same as I get when I press the up button but nothing else happens

It actually doesn’t bother me that the window doesn’t open, what bothers me is that the boot gets soaking wet as it’s letting rain in where the lip pushes the window slightly out so now have to fix the window.

Any ideas????

Thank you!

Yes, the car "thinks" the window is down, or else it wouldn't unlatch the door when you open it - the latch is electronically controlled.

I recon you need to get it sorted as eventually the window will break as you open/close the door and as the top of the window is being pushed out it will not be sealing on the sides and letting water in (which often happens at the best of times anyway!).

Sounds like the cable mechanism has broke, has someone had access and just put a prop inside the door?
This^^^^

If your getting water in the toolbox well there is a seam around that lets in upward road spray. Put some clear bathroom sealant all around this if you remove the fixed carpet boot. You could also use silicon grease around the door rubbers to repels leaking access unless it to obvious then it needs sorting. Sounds like the regulator is knackered. Be careful when refitting as the tailgate window will need resetting or realigning.
