Hello!
I wonder if anyone can help me. I have recently had some repairs carried out to my Land Rover and I am not overly confident of the quality. I would like to arrange for a vehicle inspection and report, but the likes of The AA only inspect vehicles less than 15 years old. I have had my Land Rover from new in 1993!
I wonder if anyone might be able to suggest someone I could contact for an inspection?
With thanks, Nicky.

After breaking down, I had fitted a reconditioned gearbox, a reconditioned transfer box, and a new clutch. But on the first motorway journey, as soon as I took the car above 60mph it made an almighty racket. The garage is saying that it's the back diff and nothing to do with them, but they actually quoted me an awful lot of money to provide a roadworthy car. Had they said they were going to charge me a small fortune and there would still be a problem, I would have got another quote. I have had one person informally look at it who isn't convinced there's a serious problem with the back diff and suspects the garage is just trying to get me to pay out loads more. But I am frightened to drive the car too far until I know what's what. Do you know anyone?

Not personally, where are you in the country?

Also Citizens advice may be able to advise.

Doesn't sound right, what kind of racket?

Well, part of the time I'm in London, part of the time in South West London.

The car sounds generally throaty but the noise really kicks in over 60mph, getting louder the faster you go. It's a rotational clattering noise.

Would there be a site or a firm who specialises in old cars, better still old Land Rovers?

Try giving these people a bell, I have no connection with them and have never used them but a couple of Suffolk friends I trust have suggested them.

Thank you, Marmaduke. That's really helpful. Shall see what I can find out about them. Cheers!
You can check them without removing the prop, chock the wheels, release the hand brake, take it out of gear and jack up the rear axle and give it a good work out around the uj's. Any play or movement then they need replacing . Good luck

Thanks for all this, Marmaduke. I'm afraid I'm a bit useless at the actual doing, but will def get someone a bit more clued up to follow your directions. I love my Landy so so much (aka Lord Rover, or His Lordship) so shall make sure he's put right. Thanks a million.
