Land Rover Defender 110 brakes not working

OK as others have said the cap is the yellow one in front of the flat drum which is the brake booster.

Most cars have the critical caps in yellow - brake fluid, engine oil, engine filler etc.

You do not want any oil in there at all. Engine oil will kill the braking system dead - even a few drops. Keep everything clean and only pour brake fluid from the container directly into the reservoir. Also keep it all clean - wipe the top of the cap etc with a clean rag before you undo it.

You will want DOT 4 or 5.1 specification fluid. Something like this https://autohub.pk/products/liqui-moly-brake-fluid-dot-4-synthetic-250ml

If you spill it on painted surfaces it attacks paint - flush it off with water if you do.

Can you get a photo of the colour of the fluid with the cap off? Old fluid goes dark and can cause problems. New fluid is clear and pale yellow usually.

Fill it up - then try the brakes again. You might need to bleed the system or the calipers which we will come to...

It should be almost full so needs topping up but if the pedal is bottoming out and it's not lack of fluid and there's no obvious brake fluid leads I imagine you need a new brake master cylinder.

Uh oh that doesn't sound good. Well I've just woke up and now I'm going to the mechanic. I'll let you know what he thinks the problem is

So this is the best picture I could take and yes, the fluid has gotten much thicker and non transparent. I'm going to the mechanic now so I'll mention this to him I'll let you know what he says

Oh and another thing, I've been driving with the help of hand break so is it safe? Like could it cause any problem to the car somehow?

No, keep in mind the hand brake is a transmission brake not a wheel brake....The hand brake is not really designed to stop a 110 in motion. I am not mentioning the obvious of how can you steer, change gear and brake....

Mate do load a Rave manual for your model. It's a really brilliant way of learning how to fix the Land Rover yourself. I got my Landy 2 years ago and I new nothing. Now I can service it, change axle fluids, exhausts, half shafts and learning more and more. That's why guys love them they're like giant lego toys!

Guys listen I'm at the workshop right now and what I always fear by taking a car to the workshop happened, it got worst. It always started alright but now after the mechanic got done with it, it now isn't even starting. They said it doesn't have oil so I bought oil and fill it up but it's still not starting and now I'm just sitting hopelessly while the experts who have no clue what they're doing are dealing with it

Sounds like you need to find a better bunch of experts. A Tdi is a pretty basic lump and any half decent mechanic should be able to find their way around it.

Alright so the horror show is over now. I wasn't able to write consistently here because something happened to the internet city wide. So the brake problem was that the brake cylinder was broken I had it replaced like blue beasty said. And then the starting problem was just that there was some air stuck in the engine. Now it's finally fully OK. I'm taking her out of city for a little off road trip.

The reason why I don't take her to any other experts is because there aren't any in my city or not that I know of since Land Rovers are pretty rare here.

But anyway, thanks everyone for their support! I really learned much here about my car and it was a fun experience. I'm really looking forward to learn more about my car but this'll be enough for now. So thanks again! I really appreciate your help you guys are awesome!

What is your location, I would be amazed if there wasn't someone who knew about Defenders within 50 miles of much of the planet. Perhaps just a person who likes Defenders, worked in the Army, ex pat, tourist, retired chap..Somewhere as big as Lahore.

Wow dude you actually searched about all that in my area. Thanks a lot dude but the truth is that my dad used to take the Defender to that particular workshop like always so I just try to do what my dad used to. And plus his workshop is really close to our house so it's easier for me to take it there because driving a default car in a city this dense is really difficult.

But the next time I have a problem I'll check those guys out. Thanks again!
