Hi

Just trying to find out if it was just me or is this common practise.
Bought a new Freelander from Pillings Mar 05. Just before delivery they phoned and said for extra £350 I could have 3yrs servicing. Sounded good so I said yes and paid up.(by the way they are not my local dealer, they were offering deals online)

12 mnths later at first service they denied all knowledge of a servicing arrangement-they had carefully hidden the £350 payment on the invoice.
After a telephone argument they paid up for first service but are refusing to pay for next two leaving me heavily out of pocket.

If anyone else suffered the same treatment I would love to hear from you.
Land Rover customer services made sympathetic noises but claim they are powerless over their dealers!

Surely you can get a copy of the phonecall log from your phone provider, it at least backs up some part of your story.
Then i would write and give them 28 days to either admit or deny they had made the offer, informing them of your intention to go to trading standards.
I would also mention you were a member of a long standing LR members association and you had taken the matter up with the members for future reference.

But dont let them get away with it.

If it was me, a simple placard held in my hand outside their premises each day, perfectly legal as long as not slanderous, would certainly help. Even if it took me 2 weeks to accomplish this, id do it for the sake of principal.

on a similar note,

When my dad (yes i'm fairly young still) had a 5-series about 10 years ago, the wheels were faulty by design and spidered within a couple of months plus a defect in the pattern made sure they were constantly coated in brake powder. Parking the car everyday outside the BMW showroom in Norwich with graphics on each wheelarch highlighting the problem got it sorted surprisingly quickly....

A contract is confirmed when an offer is made and accepted. This can be verbal or written.

Have a word with trading standards local to the dealer. If they have had similar complaints you'll have plenty of power to your elbow, or if not they are usually very good at giving advice.
