I have a strange noise on my 4.6 P38. Whenever I brake or slow down I can hear what sounds like a distant bleating, as if a lamb was calling it's mother. It seems to be coming from under the bonnet. It will last for about 2 seconds.

I presume this is normal, but am just interested to know what it is. I've heard similar noises on other cars coming from the HVAC (From stepper motors moving the air direction things) but I can't understand why this one only appears when braking. Unless the engine noise if drowning it out normally.

The noise that you are hearing is the ABS accumulator.
Mine made the same noise and the brake,TC and ABS lights used to come on too.
Replace with a new one and everything will be back to normal.

Thanks. Is the sound not normal then? I have no warning lights on. Since posting originally I have noticed it also when driving normally but it is very quiet and hardly noticeable until you slow down.
