Hi, everyone! Brand new here (both to the forum and to the UK). My name is Laura and I'm actively looking for a pre-1998 Defender 110 to start my Land Rover journey (so I'm not quite sure if it's cool if I post here yet :D...will delete if not allowed). Currently have my eyes on a two-owner 1997 110 300 TDi with around 100K miles on her. Hope to update soon with a purchase so I can officially be part of the club and start tinkering.

A little about me: I grew up in the US and recently moved to the UK with my husband and four Border Collies. We're looking forward to this new lifestyle, and can't wait to officially join the Land Rover community, which is something we've been dreaming about for years. We want a vehicle that will become part of our family for decades to come, and one that we can take on loads of adventures while living here in the beautiful UK.

No pictures of a Landy yet, but in the meantime, let me introduce you to (left to right): Archer, Lana, Peaches and Rogue. Can't wait to start our Landy journey :)

Welcome Aboard :)

1997 is a good year, given it is pre SVA, and 300 tdi is the best non electronic engine LR have made - eminently tunable too ;)

Also like the Collies - we have a working pair - one welsh and one blue merle border :)

I take it there was originally 5 dogs!

One of the things you will find out about UK people is they appear weird compared to the yanks, they may have land rovers/boats/range rovers/aeroplanes etc, but it will not be centre of their entire life.

You will also find most older 90/110/defenders are totally shagged and not worth buying.

Hello and welcome:)
if you post up details of any potential landys the guys and girls on here will give you there knowledge and wisdom.

This is what I'm looking at right now...going to go see her next week. Seller has been quite kind and responsive over e-mail. Was upfront and said the rear doors likely need replacing and might consider lowering the price to account for that. Thoughts?

It is what we call a blinder, tell the sucker sorry purchaser about an obvious fault (the doors) but do not mention the less obvious way more expensive fault!

Might have had a hard life towing, mileage discrepancy between mot fail in July and restest and pass in August, mileage most likely a paper error, but chassis might want a real good hard looking at, ie what exaclty was cracked?

You sure about that? I'd check government guidelines. I know England is being stupid about lockdown, not sure they're being that stupid, yet.
Oh and welcome

Nice to meet you and welcome to the UK!
What a time to move over here! Still, safer if only a bit than Trumpland!!!
Like the doggies!

13 grand for a biscuit tin with a steering wheel..

Pfft people slagging off Range Rovers in the tratter section need to get a grip LOL ;) :D

Welcome! ;)

Lets be honest defenders are ****e, but still way more reliable than any range rover:D

Well yer!!

But i could buy and rebuild my P38 and still be quids in on initially buying a 'fender, lets be honest even wrecks are 6 grand up, and having to replace the chassis coz it snapped in half, and then replace the bulkhead becoz the window in the floor is a bit chilly in the winter! ;)

Aye they are overpriced bags of turd, and I can say that as I own one:D

Look at this mint 110!
Body pure quality and mot mentions rear chassis slghtly had it, and it has no current test.
