Hi all, hope you can help?

I've just bought an '03 110 Defender TD5 Double cab with 137k on the clock. I had it checked out at the local garage and it's pretty sound but when I went to pick it up they mentioned that it was lacking power when cold. It had been used predominantly on road, and has done quite a bit of towing from what I can gather. It's also pretty gutless on hills and inclines, even when warm. When cold it struggles to get above 40/50 mpg to be honest. That said, I still think I got a good deal and the guy I bought it from is genuine.

Is there anything I can do to further diagnose the problem, also can anyone recommend a good place to get it looked at near Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Thanks for any advice in advance...

PS. Hello.....first post of many I imagine!!!

Start by giving it a full service and see if that makes any difference, start with simple stuff first.;);)
:welcome2:by the way, customary to use the introduce yourself section, but not to worry, your here now, :welcome2: to the mad house, broad shoulders and good sense of humour and you'll be fine.;);)

Hi Fraser, welcome to the mad house.

I don't have any personal experience of them, but there is a little family run independant garage in Drum of Whartle on the B9001 at the junction with the A920 a few miles out of Inverurie who always seem to be very busy whenever I pass in the lorry (lots of Landy's.) Also there is a garage in Kemnay where I often see quite a lot of Landy's parked, again, I know nothing of them personally, but there are a few guys on the forum from your area and they will probably know more about the local area than me, I'm in Perthshire.

Also, try having a good search on here, I've seen a few posts recently about gutless Defenders in either the Defender or TD5 sections. Oh, and before someone else says it, introduce yourself in the Newbies section and put your approximate location in your details, that way people will know where you are and if they can help you.

Most of all, pull on a thick skin, enjoy the banter & ****-taking and have fun.
