Hi all,
This is my first post on this forum which i have just found (& its great!!!!).
I have recently had to change my engine on my disco 300tdi, due to a serious overheat due to a split expansion tank. I bought a second hand unit from a local breakers that was recently rebuilt. My problem is that since fitting, when i turn the key, there is no turn over of the engine & the dash lights go out. I have now put a cable in to the starter solenoid from the relay & a feed off the fuse box through a switch to the fuel cut off solenoid. This allows me to use it. I also do not have any power to the pre heaters.
Does any one have any ideas?
I would obviously like to get the starting system back to normal.
If not, can i wire the fuel cut off solenoid into the ignition as well? If so where?
Many thanks
Regards Rob.

Well, its a 300tdi. It hasnt changed. The only thing thats changed is the engine so you have missed something out. When you reconnected the battery did you miss a cable out perhaps? I know youre not stupid (you changed the engine so you must know something!) but sometimes its staring us in the face. I am an electrician by trade (not an auto electrician unfortunately) and 99% of the time its something easy and obvious. It does sound like a missing link or fuse/ relay etc.

Hope this helps and didnt sound too patronising!
