Hi All

I have a 2003 TD6 vogue with 123k on the clock. All is well, except I have noticed that occasionally, there is a slight vibration between 1500 to 2000 rpm at about 30ish Mph - feels very much like you are running over the rumble strips at the side of the road. Its not by any stretch of the imagination terrible. I've had a bit of a google, and theres a few people saying this is a sign of the torque converter going south and needing replacement.

I am fairly (but not positive) sure that the gearbox has been replaced once in its life - the reason for this is that I am sure I found a date stamp on it later than the car, and that it was cleaner that the rest of the car underneath. Long term though, I would like to get the car chipped or remapped to extract some more power and make it more driveable, but I am concerned the gearbox will be the weak point again, so my next question is if the gearbox has to come out to change the torque converter, would or could the gearbox be upgraded to be stronger and last longer?

Also, would anyone recommend someone preferably in Beds/herts/bucks/cambs area, but happy to travel that could carry out the TC replacement/gearbox out stuff....I dont really want the trouble of doing this myself, but I do want the job done properly, by people who know what they are doing.

Cheers in advance

Neil.

Look for rpm fluctuations about 40 / 50 mph, a sure sign the torque convertor is on its way. Catch it before it gets too bad and starts dumping metal into the gearbox.
