Hi all

Got my first real fault on the Range Rover it’s the M57 3.0 litre bmw engine and as it’s gets to operating temperature it cuts out. It’s done this several times and it’s not at any particular point in the Rev range. Every time before when it’s happened it has just cut out however today when it happened it flagged up the fuel injection system fault on the screen then continued running but on 5 cylinders. These are the faults that have come up everytime it’s happened.

1260 low pressure fuel side plausibility
1190 fuel rail pressure plausibility.
Cause:
Maximum pressure exceeded
Minimum pressure for engine speed too low
Rail pressure increase
Regulator valve at limit and pressure too low
Regulator valve jammed.

I have already changed the pump under the passenger wheel arch. However should the fuel be a steady stream from the pipe going into the fuel filter? As mine is coming out in little bursts? Even with the new one. Even changed the fuel filter and that’s made no difference

Sounds like intank pumps dying, take access cover off and remove pipes and fit temporary pipes into bottles. Turn the key and see if anything gets pumped out.

do NOT disconnet the electrics with the battery attached it upsets the fuel gauge i found out the hard way some numpty must have done it with mine and it was a pain to get it reading right again.

Fuel pump removed today and had nothing pumping. When I finally did get it to pump the pump would die after about a minute of continuous running and would need a 30 seconds rest before it would pull again for a short period.

In tank pump replaced still no good.

Clear pipe after fuel filter shows more air than fuel being moved to the injectors. Cycled the ignition 10 times with no improvement. Won’t start not sure where the next place to look will be?

Okay so can fuel flow up too the filter is that ok?
Can you pull some live data up,
Pre delivery pressure should be around 4 bar. Rail pressure should hit near 350 bar while cranking.
The air in the clear pipe is odd, i ran mine out of diesel a fair few times when i got it due too dodgey sender and 3 primes and it fires up again,

All sorted now I think
Was doing some testing with the in tank pump. Put 12v on the pump from a desperate battery to rule wiring on the Range Rover and no fuel coming out of the outlet.
Added some fuel onto the in tank pump side and she fired up immediately.
The in tank pump appeared to have failed in its ability to transfer fuel from one side of the tank to the other. I then put a brand new pump in but poured the fuel into the inspection hole directly into the tank. As I thought the long tube with a float on it was the main pick up. It wouldn’t start after this but it looks like this is just to transfer fuel so the main pick for the intank pump was still out of fuel. The rate it was transferring fuel from one side to the other was less than the fuel pump pumped so lots of air. I then put 20 litres in the filler and it’s been fine.

Must have got fuel stuck in the passanger side of the tank they need a little pressure like a couple psi on the return side to pump fuel from the left side too the right side the feed side.

If you look how too get in the dash menu you can pull up digital fuel level in each side. From memory 25L gets held in the right side and anything more goes into the left and top of the tank, say you have 37L in the tank it should read 12L in the left and 25L in the right, and should use the 12L up before the 25L in the right.
