Hello all:)

Swapped from an 3.0d X5 to a 53 plate range rover TD6 about 3 weeks ago. Initial thoughts were that the the steering on the x5 was slightly heavier but constant and that the range rover seemed lighter on the straight but seemed to get heavier the more i turned into a corner. This was the only thing i didnt like about the car.

Over the last week ive noticed a creaking noise when turning left or dry steering to the left. Its like a creaky knocking noise. Also noticed a bit of a knock on the front left corner when going over bumps in the road.

I jacked the front of the car up yesterday and was gutted to find loads of play on the passenger side were the steering rod goes into the steering rack and im not talking a small bit of play, its a lot.

1. Do the racks on these cars go often? Ive got 20's on so thats probably not helping.

2. Is there a bush i can change in the end of the rack or is it a new rack anyway?

The cars got an after market warranty on it but dont know if theyll sort this out for me?

ps. checked the fluid and its fine!

Any help appreciated, cheers

Terry

If you bought from a garage they would have put a new MOT on it surely, and that doesn't sound like something that would have got past an MOT inspector?

You should be straight back to the dealer and have them fix it. Or does the warranty allow you to go anywhere and get a quote?
