L322 RR TD6 2006 - Touchscreen system crashing

I'm so excited, my 1st post!... Been lurking for a while & finally bit the bullet & bought in to ownership using some of the expert opinions/considerations on this forum - thank you all. Last week I took ownership of a 2006 RR TD6. My first Land Rover!

I have an issue... The touchscreen system randomly throws up an error as follows: "New key detected" "Personalisation restart" "Please wait" (all in the same grey box, but on seperate lines). It then shuts down & restarts. I have attached a screenshot as I don't know how to insert it into this post.

The non-franchised dealer I bought from was supposed to supply 2 keys and had to order one from LR. Apparently the new key was not fully synched with the car & could not start the engine, so the dealer thought this was the problem. I collected the new key & took it to a main dealer to get them to synch it properly but although the key now works, the error still persists. This is happening at random intervals but at least 2-3 times on a simple 1/2 hr journey. I have tried to isolate by seeing if it happens with navigation on/off and also in different modes i.e. CD, Radio or TV. It happens with all modes. I've checked the boot & left side etc for any water & it all seems dry.

Any help would be REALLY APPRECIATED as it is driving me nuts... :doh: Each time it crashes I also get disconnected from my bluetooth handset too.

take the car back and let the dealer sort it, you bought it off him, he has to make sure it's fit for purpose. the key he gave you should have been fully sync'd as well. i would guess it will be a dealer job anyway as everything is a dealer job these days

You could try resetting all the software by disconnecting the battery for a while then reconnecting - it often helps with more sophisticated electronics in cars, rather like a computer reboot. Often sorts out all manner of bizarre electronic gremlins. At least there's no EKA to worry about in L322s!!!

Thanks for the advice, yes the car is going back to the dealer but I wanted to see if I could get a heads up so he doesn't have to keep it for too long whilst diagnosing the fault.

Forgive my ignorance here please but what is "EKA?" I was under the impression that if the battery got disconnected it meant a whole heap of hassle with resynching keys & other features etc. I guess I've misunderstood something somewhere.

EKA = Emergency Key Access
It's a code you can input via the drivers door lock to get the engine started in the event the key fob gives up the ghost, but as Rangiegal stated, that's not a feature in any L322 so don't worry.

In a 2006 TD6 L322 the vehicle itself used BMW technology for almost everything, which is pretty robust and won't mind you disconnecting the battery with no ill effects, however the entire infotainment system is Ford Jaguar and is linked via a MOST fibre optic network. Its link to the rest of the vehicle and to a Can bus network that is connected to the diagnostic connector is done via a special gateway ECU which i suspect is the problem. It also won't give you any problems with a battery disconnection. In fact the newer MOST and can bus systems often have problems that can be fixed with what is known as a hard reset. This involves disconnecting the terminals to the battery and shorting them together for a minute or so to cause the Can bus and MOST bus ECU's to totally drain them of power and reset them.

So its certainly worth a try.

The dealer still has the car, but I understand that it will be ready for me to collect tomorrow... Apparently the key was not set properly & has been reset again! I guess I'll find out for certain once I have the car back... Wish me luck
