You don’t need to remove the sump but it is probably a good idea as (due to the relatively low cost and ease of replacement) you might also like to consider changing the filter at the same time?

You just need the filter itself (LPW000030), its O-ring (TYX000100) and a new sump pan gasket (TYF000110). Removing the sump also allows you to inspect the sump magnets, which gives an indication whether or not your 5HP24 is poorly.

Use LT71141 fluid only - this has recently been re-badged from Esso to Mobil. The final level should be checked when the fluid temperature is between 30 & 50 deg. C. With the engine running move the selector lever through each gear position, pausing for a few seconds in each, and then return it to ‘Park’. With the engine still ticking over remove the level/filler plug and adjust the fluid level. It is correct when a thin thread of fluid runs from the hole.

The combined filler/level plug is sited on the RH side of the casing near the back of the transmission. Make sure that you can undo this plug before you drain any fluid out.

As LT 71141 is so expensive you might like to try shopping around. All of the following are the genuine thing :

ZF Lifeguardfluid5 (ZF No. S671 090 170)
Audi / VW Oil No. G 052162 A1 / A2 / A6
BMW Oil No. 8322 9407807
Citroen Oil No. Z 000169756
Jaguar Oil No. JLM 20238
Mercedes Benz Oil No. A 0019892203
Peugeot Oil No. Z 000169756
Porsche Oil No. 999.917.547.00

I shouldn’t bother trying a Jaguar dealer though because they charge £29/litre for the stuff!!

sorry to jump in, do you know if the TD6 (2003) has the same box as the 4.4's? And if so, what box is it? I phoned round for a quote today and was asked what box has it got in it, apparently there are 3 different types?

And is a garage likely to removed the sump to change the filter and all the oil, or just drain it off and top up?

Thanks in advance

Shove Mrs Blonde under the car and tell her to look for the manufacturers plate on the side, could even be a ZF5HP instead of a GM:D
