Just joined the forum here as I have been contemplating what to do with one of my wheels, and though some input from fellow RR owners may help...

So, 'Hi' to you all, and thanks in advance for any advice..

Travelling along one dark night, and encountered a pothole:

(Before anyone asks how I could have not seen it, I painted the white line around it afterwards, which makes it much more visable!)

It is over 5ft long, and yep, that is a submerged traffic cone in there.

It was dark and I only saw it from about 10 metres away, but traffic on the opposite side prevented me from swerving out to avoid it.

Hit it at about 35-40mph.

Started to get a steering wheel shake that got progressively worse, indicating that the tyre was deflating fast.

Limped it the last 1.5 miles to my destination, with the last half mile on a totally flat tyre.

Unsurpisingly, my wheel looked like this when removed:

I thought I would have ripped the tyre, and possibly cracked the rim, but on closer inspection it appears that the rim has bent, so the tyre bead is not seated, and therfore the air has escaped.

I'm glad the rim has not cracked - and I'm impressed too. It is a Genuine Overfinch wheel (with the Overfinch Logo on the spoke on the front of the wheel), and proof that you get what you pay for. A replica would no doubt have cracked, if not totally shattered.

So, I have 2 issues.

Firstly, can anyone recommend an alloy wheel repairer that would be able to deal with this? The front face of the wheel is immaculate, so doesn't need any cosmetic refurbishment - I'd like to avoid this so I don't end up with a slightly odd wheel, they never seem to get the colours exactly right?

Secondly, I have a spare wheel:

But.... it is a different finish. It is in the Overfinch Titanium finish, rather than the silver finsih that my remaining wheels are in.
The titanium finish is supposed to be the more desirable finish as it is rarer type, but I don't fancy getting all 4 wheels refurbed to titanium as I would have to leave the car on bricks!

By any slim chance, would there be anybody who would want to swap my immaculate 22" Titanium Tiger for a standard silver 22" Tiger wheel? (It would have to be genuine Overfinch, with the logo on the front of the wheel)

Any thoughts on the potential of repairing my bent wheel would be much appreciated.

Any offers of swaps even more so!

Thanks,

Jimi.

Claim against the Council for the cost of replacement / repairs

Thanks, but having tried such a route with previous incidents I know just how laborious persuing the Council can be - And it's not like they've got a stock of Overfinch rims sat around the office either. With the demise of Overfinch I'm still going to have to do the legwork, which is more costly than the actual damage itself.

Bad luck!

You could get your spare painted to match the rest on your wheels.

Yep, that's an option. My only problems with that are firstly I would need another spare to put on, as the mis-matching wheel is currently fitted to alow me to use it.
Secondly, I've found that in the past the re-furbed wheel never quite matches the rest, as most wheel places just use a generic silver rather than matching existing colours. Now its common to find they use Powder Coating methods instead of paint which gives a much more hard-wearing, but visibly different finish.

But if I can't find another wheel to buy or swap, I may just have to accept this, and get the Titanium-finished spare refurbished.

Anyone got any spare 22" Tigers?

A decent paint shop/repairer will not have this problem. Don't just think alloy wheel repair.

The reason it didnt break is because it was hot forged. Any repair on it will not be , so I would consider it scrap.Sorry to be heartless but I take it its not from a £1500 P38 with an ill fitting L322 conversion?

THATS SOME POT HOLE might need dredging before its filled in,seriosly take out a claim you have good evidence just think if you were riding a motorbike ?good luck

That is a very good point.

I ride (in the summer) and that is leathal and needs filling ASAP.

A fair point, and something I didn't consider. I'm always wary of repaired wheels, and did think that I'd be lucky to get this repaired.
If it wasn't such a mint wheel, I wouldn't be fussed, but the set is immaculate, and neither can I just pop down to Farnham to Overfinch (15 mins from me) to pick up another one now they've gone bang.

And no.... it's not from a ratty P38!

That is a very good point.

I did report it that evening, and it was filled 2 days later.

Whilst I was by the side of the road, another motorist stopped to tell me she had reported it 3 times in the last week. She gave me her name, and later that evening, a quick google pulled up her name, living on the exact road, with her phone number.
Why did google pull up her name and number? Only because she's the local councillor....
So I do have a great case, but it's NOT going to get me a matching wheel!!

No, Effingham in Surrey. A couple of weeks back.

I'm still gutted as I've not long had this particular L322 - only owned 3 weeks before it happened!
