The Welsh have a wonderful word - Hiraeth. It's main meaning is
homesickness, the tug on the heart from a homeland far away, but it's also a
longing and a sadness for something lost or distant. You know it when you
feel it. There's no English word for it, same as with Craic.

He who says it cannot be done would be wise not to interrupt her doing
it.

oh yes, Hiraeth is good. ISTR Harry Secombe talking about it in "We'll keep
a Welcome..." - and saying that it can't be translated. It's closest to
"longing" entomologically (there's a good word!).

Mr. Creemy's ice cream van in the Rhondda has "we'll keep a welcome" as it's
chimes.
