Like many I took some time to decide on what tyres to fit to my bog standard D1 when the 2 rears reached the wear limit. I suppose I really wanted BFG ATs but the cheapest I could get then for was 1600 NZD a set of 4 fitted, which seemed too much to me so I opted for the Kumho's at 1000 NZD, fitted (That's about 500 GBP which is more than you would pay in the UK, but tyres are generally a bit of a rip off in NZ).
The only concern I had with the Kumho was going slightly down in width to 225, as they do not do the OEM size of 235/70, and the next size up is either 235/85 or 245/75 which according to the landyzone "what tyres fit" sticky thread involves trimming fenders etc, which I did not want to do. I also did not want to raise the gearing given the auto box struggles to get into top when towing the horse float even on quite slight hills.
The Kumho's have been getting good reviews on landyzone and other sites, albeit I've not yet seen a review where it was specifically stated the 225/75 size was fitted.
First impressions are they are NOT much noisier than the road tyres that were on it, a bit of humming around 60kmph was all I've noticed so far, and that faded away at higher speeds, braking on wet roads is ok so far, and they don't look too skinny to me!
I don't do much off road, but I felt I needed a more off road orientated tyre to reduce the risk of getting stuck in a paddock with the wife's horse float attached, which with 2 horses aboard weighs nearly 2500kg. The road tyres were hopeless on wet grass, let alone churned up mud.
