hey everyone i'm new to this site and new to the joy of defenders . after a bit of help please ,i have a 1991 110 200tdi she's not bad, good work horse.the other week a had a heavy load on a trailer. while reversing with left hand down there was a loud bang sounded like it came from the left. thought id broke half shaft but took whole hub off .cv and shaft ok replaced all bits and bobs in cv and hub. still getting knocking took prop off seems ok ,drove up road a bit, no knocking without on looked again at prop ujs and general condition all good.had her up all wheels off ground turned everything by hand no noise.i'm stumped am i buying a new prop-shaft or what.. i live in march, cambrigeshire thanks

I had a loud thunk noise a few years back on a RRC, which is basically the same as a Defender as regards running gear, I thought it was CV, spring, changed the swivel bearings both sides and the bastard still did it. Turned out to be the front radius arm bushes rusted and worn in the arms, and would twang when on full lock sometimes. Doesn't help you much I know, but check the condition of the bushes, might be the cause if you cant find anything else.

I'am new to this site too, I had a situation like yours.....After investigations found the tyre was rubbing on the radius arm's on hard lock......Adjusted the steering lock/stop bolts on front hub's...... Still happens from time to time but I'am now aware of this problem.
Hope this might be of some help to you..
