Hi,

This is my first post on here..I've just bought my very first freelander.

It's a 55 plate TD4 with 46k on the clock so didn't expect anything unusual. However...when I slowly depress the clutch to go from 1st to second there is a knocking / clunking sound from somewhere near the middle / front.

Is this normal?

Thanks

If you bought it from a dealer take it back and let them sort it.
You may first want to check the oil in the gear box and front diff.
Is there enough?
If you drain the oil and replace it check for pieces of broken metal in the oil. This will mean there is some damage/excessive wear.

The damage to the front diff if any can be caused by you vcu (big round thing between the two driveshafts) seizing.

Check this by jacking up the rear and seeing if you can turn a wheel by hand, also do the tippex test.

if you've just bought it from a dealer take it back to them, it's their problem NOT YOURS!
