keys?

if i was to buy a new key for my p38 off ebay how would get it coded to my car is it possible?

No chance!!!! unfortunately this is a land rover only job and i don't mean the dealer, Costs anything up to £150. Sorry. I looked into this myself

thanks just as i thought! the seller told me that they could be done by Lr or an automotive locksmith but to be honest i thought otherwise I've been quoted 130 + vat for a spare key.

LR quoted me £149 for a new key as I only have 1 for my vehicle. A new one is only available from them

Landrover/Disco fobs

Andy,brought a new key of Main dealer last year only to find it wouldn't work. They order the keys from your original car details ie chassis no. etc and so works in conjunction with your cars Becm.Someone in the past had changed the Becm and the ignition lock and key ??.I now have a brand new key ( paid £115 ) sitting in my toolbox.Dont buy a second hand unit and if you are uncertain about your locks ,key etc, have them read the code your Becm is giving out first. ( they charged me £45 for this ).

Never ever ever buy your key fobs or handsets as LR like to refer to them, from anywhere else than LR themselves.

You cannot take another handset and reprogram it to your P38 as the handsets contain your BECM info and car ident.

Also do not give out your car registration documents or send off your handset to obtain a cheaper key and keyfob combo.

They use RF data receivers and generally are being used illegally to obtain your cars signal only to be stolen several days later.

OK, its not a cheap option to replace at £116 a handset but you have total piece of mind its all secure.

Be very careful, even if buying a spare key from Land Rover, Keys 1 & 2 are different, AND they are a different colour, but only slightly, one is 'brown' the other is slightly black,its VERY easy to buy the wrong one, & it WILL NOT work, if you already have a 'No.1', then you must buy a 'No.2' & vice-versa.
Its only when the 2 keys are side-by-side that you can see the difference.
They have a sticker on the back with the number, but mine is missing & I need to see someone else's to see the difference ( I think I have a No. 1)

There is NO WAY any other key bought on e-bay (or any where else) will work, it HAS to come from Land-Rover & they need your cars details ( to program it) & what No. key you already have.
