God, what is it with these things!!!.. I now have my Rangerover 2.5 DSE (98) thinking my key is in the ignition all the time. Anyone had this one, a rather annoying beep is heard when you lock the car with the key (due to remote locking not working).
You can unlock the Rangee with remote but it won't lock at all which probably means the alarm is not truly armed.

Any ideas?
Would be great to sort this one out...

Cheers:confused:

Some ignition key barrels have a small button type switch at the bottom of the barrel, which the key pushes against due to dirt/grease introduced by the key these can become sticky/stuck.

Try a small squirt of WD40 or the like in the barrel then insert/remove the key a few times, but don't flood it.

hth

Do not use WD40 or similar on doorlocks they leave a sticky residue that attracts dirt. use a graphite based lubricant.

surely he needs to wash out any crud in the ign switch first. Possibly use isopropyl alcohol first, then a graphite based lubricant.

Ok then tell me a product that is graphite based that the local car shop will have on the shelf???

I did state a SMALL SQUIRT not a flood, I also have a personal friend who works for Chubb Safes as a foreman safe engineer, guess which lubricant they use on there locks and bolts... ...WD40 or similar...

I had this very problem when we first got the P38. Before you go squirting whatever into the ignition, confirm first of all, does the steering lock work? If it doesn't then this confirms the pin hasn't 'clicked in' when you pull the key out and the car thinks the key is still in. Personally I used a small squirt of a shop's own brand 99p WD40 equivalent and it was successful.

Yes!!!, nice one zzr1200, that was it, a bit of wd40 has done it. I could have a go at cleaning the crud out but i'm more than happy with my alarm locking remotely again. Thanks ever so much finally I have been able to fix something on the Rangee and not have to take out a mortgage on the bill!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D
