P38A Key Fob

2000 V8 auto
Having trouble with key fob
Dash says "key battery low" and wont de-immobilse engine
Key was worked on by MrSporty so nothing wrong with key so I assume that is something in car.
Any suggestions?
Also what battery should be in key?

I don't know about the standard fob, our spares from Classic Rides North Wales take a tiny CR1220 battery, much the smallest I have come across in any key fob.

My Ford remote fob takes a 2025 / 2032 battery - much bigger and longer lasting. We need to get a bulk pack of spares for the CRNW fobs as I think they will be quite short lived batteries.

If the dash says "key battery low" quite likely there is a bad battery connection which is common, or the battery really is low.

Standard P38 fob Battery is a CR2025.
"Battery Low" when theres a known new battery in there usually means a bad contact in the fob (as keith @Datatek says).
I took this form another site... "One of my fobs had the same issue with the battery always on low no matter how many times I changed the battery.

Turns out it was due to a leg on the metallic springy thingy that the battery is pressed down upon. The positive side.

That leg was supposed to be aligned with a hole with metal surround in the circuit board. It wasn’t soldered. Merely just laying there. Anyway it wasn't in the hole but on top barely in touch with the metal.
When I pried on it and managed to get it aligned with the hole it slid into place and the problem with low voltage battery hasn’t returned."

2025 and 2032 are both 20mm diameter and same voltage, but one is 2.5 mm thick, the other 3.2. In my experience in the Ford fob, both will fit and the 2032 gives longer battery life in use.

Not more contact, and some things it won't fit, but just a longer life due to greater capacity.
