Hi all. I wonder if there's anyone on here that obsesses as much as I do keeping a track on costs ?
For about 3 years now I've been using an App on my phone that keeps tabs and produces reports.
Input insurance costs, servicing and mot costs, ad-hoc repair costs, road tax; then each fill-up enter mileage reading, price per litre and total fill, then the app will do all the hard work keeping up to date information at your finger tips.
Not only the at a glance stuff like mpg, but also the overall picture which is the pence per mile equating from fixed costs plus fuel. It's one thing knowing that the car (Jeep Patriot for me at the moment) achieves an average of 28.29mpg , but it's a bit more helpful to know that averaged out the car costs 19 pence per mile to run - all thing considered.
Is it sad ? A bit obsessive ? or is it a must for anyone on average income who wants to run a big boys toy ?

Oh the name of the app ? it's called Fuelio and it's free from the appstore.
I'm not sponsored, just sharing a useful tip with like minded folk.

Do wonder what he's doin here! Without readin his profile.
(Later) Well he at least says "Urggh" to owning a Jeep, and longs for an LR product.
Perhaps we should have a new section "Dreamboat alley";)

He actually doesn't say he longs for an LR product and his avatare is an LR product not his jeep...as for this app he is using what is the point do you have to input your time spent checking oil/water/tyre pressure and adjusting at the hourly rate your paid...bloody usless app...

Quote from his profile. "Dream Landrover?:L322 Vogue SE". So, OK, "dreams of..." rather than "longs for"
And I agree his app is the sort of Christmas present I would give to a much-disliked, maiden aunt next Christmas!;)

Excusing the OP for his poor choice in vehicle, I too keep track of all expenditure, though not the fuel. I do this for all my vehicles and have done so since my first car...a £500 1977 MKII Ford Escort; it was/is the only Ford I've ever bought.

I keep all MOT certificates, VED details, all parts and detailed service history paperwork in folders...including tyre change and geometry alignment receipts This may all sound a bit OCD but it sorts out the properly maintained cars from the general low grade chaff that's often out there and really helps when coming to selling a vehicle. Prospective new owners love to see this level of proven service/well maintained history and it absolutely ensures I get the price I want for the car at sale time.

Obvs, I tell tyre kicking goon types to p*ss off when they start making stupid offers...it always amazes, and amuses, to see grown men blush with embarrassment when they're politely told to sod off.

+1
That's why my RRC is up for sale, alright while interest rates on savings were worth having, but these days … :(

Not a prayer. Im done with them as soon as I start working out what I've spent. I've spent it, its gone and not coming back so fcuk it. I reckon I have a weekly JGS box arrive some months.

No real point with a 20yr old P38.. I have 3 folders full of receipts, that's good enough for me..:D

Interesting logistical exercise Henry … you have 3 folders for a 20 yr. old P38 & I have 1 ringbinder for a 33 year old Classic owned for 12 years.
Either this tells us something about the ownership cost of P38's vs Classics, or more likely (a)you do a lot more miles than I do or (b) you've owned the car a for longer ;)

Depends on how thick they are...

I've had mine 3 years, the past owners had more money than sense, OP have a receipt for a service where they charged £20 for screenwash!

The last owner abused her somewhat, the ones prior cosseted, in my tenure it has been just rectifying up the neglect. ;)

the folders aren't that big! ;)
