Hi....I recently 'upgraded' from a 200TDi...(which was mechanically sound but as watertight as a string vest and had therefore suffered from boot-rot.....and had so much welding done there was practically no original chassis left)

....to a TD5. I did a bit of research (although not enough, obviously) and found that 'electrical faults' are the most common problem.

Hmmm. I decided that the odd electrical fault was preferable to the arse end of your Disco still being attached to your stationary trailer as you drive off......and bought one.

However- the joy of my new car was tempered by the constant worry that the wind wasn't in the right direction, or whatever random variable decided whether it was going to start. Or not.

Fearsome I had bought a lemon.....did a bit more research. And thanks you lot I have sorted out battery connectors (although they looked like they connected, they were only vague aquaintances) cleaned earth cables, twiddled random wires, checked the alternator and finally decided that the real problem was the dodgy solenoid. So...£9.95, and several hours of my dad wrestling with the 'nut of doom' later.....and ta da! I am now free to get about the business of messing up this Disco with a liberal helping of horse hair and straw.

Cheers muchly :D:D
