http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f20/hello-midlands-85497.html....Made the call to the dealer about my Defender. "Our drivers won't drive it if it's the brakes" (Understandable). However, they don't do recovery!
They suggested I ring Land Rover Assistance. OO! I'd forgot about that.
Chappie arrived at 14.00hrs, as I was told he would. Turned up in a rather horny sounding V6 diesel Discovery and gave the underside of mine a look over. Narrowed the problem down to a failed tranferbox seal leaking transmission oil into and onto the handbrake drum and shoes, thus throwing the oil over the brake pipes on the chassis. Not a major leak at present, but it meant next to no handbrake.
He just suggested booking it in with the dealer, which I did and in doing so I asked if there was a courtesy car available. To my surprise they said there would be later on in the afternoon, just bring your licence and insurance documents, just give it a couple of hours to make sure and give us a ring before you leave. Which I did, only to be told by another person that "we don't give courtesy cars out at such short notice" and you can only have one for a day anyway (two or three day job by the looks of it). I then explained yet again what had happened earlier in the day, to which I was told that Land Rover Assist should have supplied me with a courtesy car. So I ring them again and explain the situation to yet another person. (How I held my temper I don't know).
I was told that I could have a car for up to two days (possibly not long enough), so to cut a long story a little shorter, I told them not to bother and i'd take mine in myself and catch the train back.
Took mine in and explained to the service manager there, who fortunately lives local to me. I had my say on the situation as, o.k, the faults are more than a little frustrating, (I know, before you say it, it's a Land Rover), but this is about the third time i've been messed around by the dealer service deptartment, or someone in there. My final point to the manager was that if it was a £50k Range Rover out there it would be different, to which he said "nah, it'd be just the same crap service", (clever sod), so I said "yeh, but you'd say thank you".
Anyroad up, he gave me a lift home and said he'd sort the bit's out from a previously reported fault.
Perhaps I should get the Moggie back on the road.
Chris.
