Hi, brand new member so excuse the immediate question.
I have a UK spec D2 TD5 with 145k on the clock. I have just replaced the transfer box and when I went to start it after the work it would not turn over.
Battery is good (I put it on charge to make sure). I'm getting full electrics but when turn the ignition key all I get is a faint click from the relays in the engine bay fuse box. Starter solenoid doesn't click. The only other sound is occasionally the suspension compressor kicking in for a second or two.

Went back under to double check the sensors on the transfer box (reverse light switch and neutral sensor) both seem fine.

Any suggestions on why it won't turn over? I don't have a fault code reader unfortunately.

Thanks in advance.

Check the spade connector on the starter solenoid is on properly.

Cna you check if the spade connector is getting 12V when ignition is switched on fully?

Cheers

Thanks, will have a look at that this morning. Had been focused on the area around the transfer box where I had been working.

Will update once I have looked.

theres a 2 earth wires bolt on rhs of transfer box ,often not reattached or broken if not undone during removal

There are two wires coming out of the transfer box loom which Don't connect to anything. They have spade connectors on the end but these are full of road grime so they haven' been connected one long time and they weren't attached to the old transfer box. Could they be the two earth??

there should be black wire earths bolted to t/box,theres 2 m8 threaded holes on the side center of pic one above the other they go to the top one

Quick update, I traced the problem to a poor connection on the Starter Solenoid. The small spade connector was covered in gunk and although connected it obviously wasn't giving a true connection. Quick spray over with contact cleaner and it was fine.

Thanks for the advice.

Nice, Those coincidental problems have you thinking and double doubting what you did.

Cheers
