Got up this morning to a landy that wouldn't start - key just clicked in ignition - after much googling etc I reckoned either a flat battery or some immobiliser issue.
Whilst in the process of attaching a battery charger, delivery man called with a parcel and proceeded to whip out a battery and jump leads from his van, when that didn't work he got out his battery testing kit, all good and charged up so he retrieved a small hammer and proceeded to 'tap' the starter motor! Hey presto! It worked started fine!
What a guy! So I'm advised to carry a small hammer in the boot - just in case! So pleased to have obtained a little useful knowledge and even better it was free! However, just in case anything goes wrong again and I don't have the delivery man calling I thought I'd better register on this site - seems very useful.

My crystal ball says you own a Land Rover with a ghost engine ... a bit more info please, you know petrol/diesel all that unneeded stuff ...

and can you hear the pump running after you turn the ignition on?

and looking after your starter might help too ...

Welcome to the loonyzone.

As above , a bit more info would be appreciated.

I am going to take a guess and say TD5, not sur eon D2 or Fender yet.........:D:D

Cheers

ok soo it's a Freelander TD4 SP S/W A and not sure re the pump noise??

yah , does that mean i win prize, lol

only pulling ur leg ;)

u can get a repair kit for the starter motor , or if u wish replace the whole starter motor

expensive to have garage fix it?

not sure if i'm honest , as i do my own repairs

imagine a ball park would be 2- 250 quid , depending if they rebuilt or replaced

maybe someone can recommend a garage where u are :)

pop over into the freelander section and someone there should be able to help more

we have a 'lifetime guarantee' with local garage (came with the car) but bet it doesn't cover starter motor - will check.

that's good to have , but alas as u say need to check

get them to fit a genuine one and not some cheap rubbish, better in the long run
