Just done me shoes

Hi guys,

Well having degreased and painted (black caliper paint) a new shiny pair of rear drums I decided to replace them and some new shoes today.

One of the small phillips head screws that retain the drum onto the hub was siezed and had to be chisled out...anyone know the part number for these please?

Got them all on and handbrake was pulling lo sided...doh! upon inspection I had put the passenger side back together without looping the handbrake cable back over the shoe retainer!!

A bit of banging and wheezing I have a new set of shoes and drums, all greased up for another 7 years of service I hope.
The original shoes had plenty of meat left on them, drums were slightly edged on the inside and looking tatty on the outside so thats why I changed them.

Just need to set up the handbrake now!

n.b after pressing the pedal quite a few times to get the adjusters to take up i noticed the drivers side took up 3 or 4 threads and the passenger side hadnt moved! Maybe becasue the shoes are already tight this side?

p.s had to pump break pedal hard about 70times before adjusters full took up slack and sponger pedal! eek!

also on the handbrake/metal plate arm that holds apart the two lower shoes there is a piece of spring metal riveted in place to prevent the handbrake cable moving outeards and touching the spinning hub. this spring metal was snapped on one of the wheels-a stealthily placed cable tie around cable and the plate seemed to maybe do a similar job. it's not tightly tied down, just loose enough on cables spring sheath to stop it hitting hub.

may buy just a new plate

make sure you take your wheels back off in a week or so, would hate them to stick to the black caliper paint on the rear drum.

thanks for the tip-I copper greased back of alloy before putting back on.
after a driver today I noticed if I braked hard it sounded like the rear passenger brake shoes pulsed on/off quickly? after driving and braking a few more times it stopped.

checked after Journey and drivers side drum us Luke warm to touch, passengers was quite hot!
I've slackened handbrake cable nut a few turns..shall I turn quick adjuster on that drum back a couple turns too?
or after a few miles it'll wear shoe down enough not to rub and heat up :0)
