Wheels aren't too bad............they clean up alright.
Rear doors seen better days, you have to scratch off the paint to see how bad it is but its not about to fall off and they're cheap enough anyway.
Door post/bulkhead needs doing properly, the sooner the better, its not going to get any easier and please dont bodge it else it'll kill her. I'd get this sorted 1st, its the most important by a long way, painting and prettying can wait

Okay fair shout. Seats & niceties can wait. Any ideas of a ballpark figure for welding on the bulhead? I'd be looking at having new floors welded in at the same time if I was having the bulkhead done. Is it a pain to get the dashboard off? I imagine there's a fair bit of corrosion lurking on the skuttle pannel/ behind the dash.

Anyone had this kind of work done before?

I may not be able to tell you very much about your Series LR, but I can tell you that the first photograph from your road trip is taken within a mile of the best cooked breakfast in the UK! I would recommend that you go there, but the service is as bad as the food is good!

And the 2nd photograph is taken within about 8 miles of my house!

Looks like a proper Cornish reg too. It's ownership may have never left the county up until now.

It will probably be cheaper to buy a mig welder (2nd hand) and weld the panels yourself. The repair panels can be bought. The floor on one of mine is aluminium chequer plate bolted to the floor. The floor (footwell) isnt welded on. Good luck.

I get to drive alot of different 4x4's in my job, defenders, L200's, outlanders, freelanders, and the odd shogun and terano, Ive got a series 3 myself and it's nice to really have to drive a truck, if you know what I mean, modern motors its just pointing them in the direction you wanna go, theres no contact with the road, I think the thing with series land rovers is it's one of tho's things you either get it or you dont, good luck with everything bud, the landy looks good....

fenman..

Thanks all your comments, and kind words.

I went out and had a good look over her tonight, and what really stands out as being in poor condition is the bulkhead. If the chassis is in reasonable condition, and I end up keeping her, I may be looking at replacing the bulkhead altogether.
How hard can it be?
It looks as though its just a bolt on/ off thing, I assume if I did it myself, start to finish, It'd take a weekend or two? It'd mean it would be solid for a while to come, and also give me a chance to sort out the wiring, clean up the engine bay, more access with bonnet etc. off, and tidy up the dashboard when refitting it.

Question is, how much could it cost?
Second hand bulkhead. £100 - £200?
Paint, and bolts etc. £50
Time - couple of weekends?

Am I being unrealistic?

you might like to ponder the above mentioned bulkhead price, google yrm there are some fine piece in panel to be had (so maybe your bulkhead won't need changing)

and you can be sure you'll find other things to do while you have it stripped - a couple of months might be a better guess

but don't let that put you off
