just bought a disco

just bought a j reg disco on ebay, had a look at it before i bid as it was only a couple of miles away, the guy said that the alternator light stays on but the battery charges, havn't got it yet so can't check anything but if the battery is charging this not be a problem, the other thing is will the 200tdi run allright on veggie, i only tend to use small amounts in my series say 75% diesel 25% veggie and never had a problem

The feed from the alternator is a spade connector on the back, the wire is often broken or not connecting well, take it off and clean or replace and that should solve the light problem.

Yes, a 200 will run happy as a pig in poo on veggy, in warmer weather will run 100% happy.

the old style alternator on the 200/3.5 v8 can be a bit dodgy.

if its not a simple wiring fault, try washing the alternator out wiuth water with the engine running, then give the alternator a good few tickles with a reasonably sized hammer.

that usually gets mine going if it chooses to play up,failing that you can get a new one from eyuro car parts for 40 quid and its lasted me about 12 months so far, with only the occasional hammering required (bear in mind it gets a very hard muddy life)
