Alright all. Could some kind person please point me to likely causes of the following:
Selected gear will jump out when engine braking, this happens in both low/high and any selected gear. Obviously this results in some arse-clenching moments. Holding gear stick in place with one hand while descending is getting tedious, so any pointers would be great!
LT77, standard t/box, 200tdi
Cheers guys!

is it jumping out of low or high or out of gear in the gear box, if its gear box , either your not fully selecting gears or box is very worn

Sorry, jumping out of main box. Very worn box... don't like the sound of that!
Cheers James.

you could try checking stick is actually fully engaging the gears and checking grub screw on shaft under turret , jumping out of all gears is unusual, you would have to have excess endfloat in box or worn gear dog teeth etc either would require complete rebuild

I'll start searching how to check that grub screw then as it'll be my first time tinkering with the gears. Is a rebuild economically viable or is it better to look for a decent/recon 2nd hand box?
Thanks

can you find a decent second hand unit ?i usually recommend rebuilding rather than scrapping old as defender boxes arent common, but whether yours is economical to is hard to say till its stripped

Thanks for your help James. I'll get tinkering at the weekend, fingers crossed it's just a matter of adjusting that grub screw to get full engagement, otherwise the gears are absolutely fine.
Thanks
