Juddering at speed

Before I undertake a visit to the garage in the morning, I wonder if anyone has any ideas that could help me?

I have a 10 year old P38, with the BMW diesel engine. It also has a set of large alloys on it, with spacers (not sure if this will be relevant). These where fitted to the car when I bought it earlier in the year from simmonites.

Driving home tonight, it suddenly started to judder violently at around 60mph. I slowed down, but the juddering remained until I stopped. Starting off again it was fine initially, but then the judder returned. It felt pretty serious, but upon getting home I've checked round the wheels and everything seems fine, despite the fact I had a horrid feeling a wheel was about to come off!

Any help gratefully received, especially as I'm going to have to drive some distance to get it back to Simmonites, or look for a garage closer to me in Skipton.

Could have thrown a wheel weight, I'd get them balanced before fearing anything major, cause those big tyres can wobble something chronic if they're outta whack.

Thanks, I thought I'd follow this up with the outcome.

First took it in for new tyres and to get the wheels balanced (boy are the tyres expensive on those big wheels

).

However, it didn't solve the issue, if anything the juddering was happening at a slower speed. So, off to the garage, and after much investigation (many thanks Pheonix in Skipton) turns out the bush had gone on the Panhard rod, meaning the stearing wheel could turn loads in either direction without moving the wheels.

Anyway, it's sorted, something to check if anyone has the same issue.

had that judder from the panhard too. such a simple fix once you know what it is!
