Judder Under Braking/ Brake Pedal

Hi Guys, Looking for some further knowledge/advise on my 4.6 Gems engine rover,
I had a severe juddering under braking which if found out to be the brake discs not held into place as the last owner had rounded off the screw holes on all the screws so could not do up with a screw driver. These changed all seemed to be fine, but juddering is back but not as severe so don't know if it a warped disc/s or if the Panhard bushes need changing.
The second is an intermittent brake pedal, I can brake and nothing there unless I push harder, otherwise I have to lift and re apply and the brakes brake normally. The pedal clicks first time when it has to be pushed twice.
Not sure if it would be the pressure vessel on the ABS pump or the ABS pump itself. It does not over run/never heard it over run of any clicking from it.
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

I read a long time ago that a click then poor brakes was due to a plastic valve in the modulator breaking up. a guy in Australia was making new ones out of stainless steel. I don't know if that is the problem you have. the pressure switch on the pump is also know to fail as can the pump itself

I have just stumbled upon the fore mentioned Austrailian on another range rover forum saying all the faults I'm getting. Looks like a complete modulator failure so will be looking for a replacement sharpish!!!

Turn the ignition on and let the brake pump buzz into action and charge the brakes. (With no engine running.) Count how many times you push the pedal before it has to charge the system again. If it charges straight away, that will point to a duff brake sphere.
If the pump is faulty it won't run or may make unusual noises.
If the pressure switch is dead, the pump may never run or won't shut down.
Do you know if any part of the brake system had been done previously?
Pipes, calipers or the like.
The system may never have been bled properly and very specific in the way it needs to be done.
As for bars and suspension arms underneath. Easier said than done, jack, axle stands or a ramp with a bar and get underneath and start prying.
Alternatively, a good independent or dealer you trust.

When discs and pads are changed there should be no harsh braking, excepting in an emergency, for the first 250 miles, until the pads and discs have worn in. If you fit new discs and pads then drive as if you have stolen the car with a last of the late brakers mentality, you WILL warp discs.

I will run through that when I go out to the truck in a bit, From what I can tell the ABS pump does not 'over run' as such at start up and has not continued to run when stopped braking. It's just the click when depressing the peddle and nothing then having to lift and reapply to get pressure to the brakes which if not careful are rather sharp the second push! Something I'm used to but can catch friends out when their driving it. Nothing has been done to the braking system in terms of repair as far as I know, nothing new is shouting out apart from some new discs and pads which were put on about 5000 miles ago by previous owner. I have looked through RAGE to see how to bleed and have considered doing that in the first instance as I also think the front calipers not releasing properly as have a squeal from one wheel

I can start the truck and drive, the brake pedal will act all normal. Then on re starting they can be playing up, its all very strange

You can get a modulator off the Bay for about £70. 3 types so make sure correct part number.

Definitely worth a full bleed and change slider pins making sure calipers move freely.

Thanks to all of you, I've not started the beast today as went out in the wife's car but I will be investigating fully tomorrow and let you know what I find
