I'm really hoping you chaps can help me!

A few weeks ago my 2005 Freelander TD4 Diesel started juddering when idle, as though it was going to stall, this would usually be followed by a loss of power along with the engine management light coming on for a few seconds when driving, then the power would come back causing the car to lurch. This seemed to escalate and at times the engine would judder when idle and then cut off. About two weeks ago I had a severe loss of power, the engine cut off whilst driving, I managed to get it going again but it was followed by a loud bang and lots of smoke.

I had the car recovered and a new turbo was fitted since the smoke was apparently the turbo going and pulling oil in. I thought that was that but since I've had the car back the juddering and cutting-off is worse. Sometimes the engine simply wont get going at all; it'll start, judder, cut off, start, judder, cut off. If I can get it going then it just judders and cuts off at various points along my journey both at idle and when running.

I took it back to the garage that changed the turbo but it wasn't faulting whilst with them and nothing showed up on the computer diagnostic check. They tell me the issue isn't related to the turbo issue.

Other than a very basic understanding of how a car works, I'm not very mechanical at all (as you may have gathered) so I'd love your input on this and get any advice from anyone who has experienced the same issue. I've looked it up and various places say it could be the fuel sensor, idle air intake valve, fuel pump, crankshaft position sensor etc. but as I say, I'd love your input

what mileage has it done if any where near 70,000 I would be thinking of the fuel pump saying that on my last td4 it was about 130,000 before that went and had the same symptoms as you .if you do change the pump change the filter at the same time as it will need it.
