Good afternoon everyone I have a TD5 defender 10p engine with an twisted performance intercooler with twin fans and a twisted engine turn and k&n filter in the original box this was all done before I purchased it and it’s very jerky at low speeds 30mph has anyone had the same issue or know how to stop it happening

Have a check for oil on the red ECU plug. Could be contaminated coming in through the engine.
Also if the pull in first jerky or low check out the props for slack or ujs worn.

Afternoon! Is it vibrations you’re getting or the engine feels like it is jerking under acceleration?

Could be your turbo waste gate rod sticking. It’s a worthwhile job anyway! I’ve put a link to a YouTube video that shows you how to loosen it step by step. I was having similar issues and this is what sorted it.

good afternoon all i have traced the suspected issue the transfer box has a lot of play on the drive flanges am i better getting a reconditioned unit as exchange or is there any adjustment that can be made inside the unit
thanks again

Is this play just rotational? A bit of that is normal. If they're generally wobbling about I'm afraid there are no adjustments, but it might be worth checking that the big nuts that hold the flanges on to the output shafts are tight (I've come across them not fitted with the split pins), although you'll need to take the propshafts off to see into them, and similarly that the four nuts holding the rear propshaft onto the handbrake drum are tight.

Good afternoon hope you’re all well just got back under the Land Rover and there seams a lot of play on the drive shafts the rear has more movement then the front do you wonderful people think this is a transfer box issue about 30mm of rotation on the front and about 60mm of rotation on the rear this is with the props instituted and handbrake off

There's often a good deal of rotational slack in a Land Rover transmission so those values don't sound too outlandish. It's when the bearings are loose and allow lateral movement that it's time to do something. Mine sometimes has a 'clunk' on drive take-up which I find can be quietened down considerably by replacing the drive flanges on the rear hubs. Other parts of the drivetrain contribute, of course, but as that's the last part of the transmission where slack can accumulate it has the most influence.

I had the same issue with a Td5 10p, it had been remapped with a 15p file. Had it remapped with the correct file, which fixed it.

good afternoon all i have decided to start by replacing the transfer box i have found a disco one (LT230 A4041D ) 1.211 ratio with locking diff that's been rebuilt with all new guts and seals am i correct that this will fit my defender TD5 manual but will make it better on the motorway speeds as a different ratio ???

It will fit and should give you more speed for less revs. I have one fitted to my tdi. I have no expricance with a td5 but see no reason it shouldn't do the same thing.

i was going to do this 1st then HD 1/2 shafts and see if that stops the jerky pickup
