Hi all,

Noticed today that I am able to move the lever through all the range from 1 to P without having the brake pedal pressed, but need to have the pedal pressed to move from P to 1.

I'm guessing this isn't correct, so is there anything that needs adjusting?

this is correct, when you engage a driving gear from P the vehicle will begin to move, so it's a safety measure to stop it moving off unless the brakes are on.

going from a driving gear to P isn't so much of a problem as it will stop the vehicle moving anyway.

I will just add. Don't engage park while the car is moving as it will destroy the gearbox ;)

Much obliged for the replies.

I discovered this when I'd already stopped with the handbrake on. Normally I keep my foot on the brake, but yesterday for some reason I took my foot off the brake before moving from R to P.

As long as it normal, that gives me one less thing to worry about on the FL then:)

Yours is normal ;)
What I find odd though is, with the box in N it's possible to select D without using the lever lock release button or putting your foot on the brake. But to move out of D into N you need to press the release button!! It's round the wrong way by my reckoning!!
