Jacking a defender: diff box or middle of the axle?

All,

The workshop manual says that a defender should be jacked by its diff boxes,
stating to be careful because these are not centred. Indeed, when I do
that, I can't seem to be able to lift the opposite wheel without having to
lift the whole thing insanely high, far too high to be safe (and I actually
didn't try because of the angle the axle was showing with the jack).

Is it ok to jack using the middle of the axle?

TIA,

Fred

I jack up using the holes in the front or rear ad then use axle stands. So
you can lift the whole car if you want to
regards
Fred
