Hi all

Well i think i have managed to sort out the starting issue, hopefuly permenent this time, every time i moved the loom that runs from the ECU to the back of the engine, it would splutter or cut out all together, move the loom again at it would start.

I removed the loom covering and tried to start the engine, but it would not fire at all, so i was not able to tell which wire was causing the problem (87 in total),

so after looking through the Rave disc wiring section, first course of action was to replace the crankshaft position sensor wire, this is a screened cable, i cut the plug off the sensor end and attached it to the new wire and then cut the wire at the ECU end leaving as much of the single cores as possible, soldered the wires together and it started first crank.

Re fitted ECU and all the other bits i moved and removed to get at the loom, then restarted the engine, pulled, pushed, tugged and what ever i could to get it to cough, splutter or stop, but nothing, running sweet again, thank F**k .

So if you have starting problems, misfiring, it might be worth looking at this cable, it was quite stiff and worse at the end near the sensor, i presume it is because it is very close to the cat and bakes the cable, just a thought.

I hopes this helps some one.

Beasty

It was amazing i didn't break down in the heat, payed a garage to fix and only lasted a week, so decided to do it myself and i know it's done.

that happened to the crank sensor cable on my bmw engine. the screened cable was earthed inside the sensor via the mounting bolt, the screen came loose and caused it to do the same as yours so i pulled what was left of it out of the sansir body and earthed it to the timing case. problem solved!
