It did it again

Why is it when the wife comes out in the Disco that she hated me buying that another problem rears its ugly head.

The first time the PAS pump went and stripped the drive belt as well, but we limped home ok as it was only 2 miles.

Today the bleeding exhaust system fell off and is dangling under the car by its rubbers. I don’t mind as I wanted to de-cat it away, and Island 4X4 do the complete system for under £70 so as long as the manifold bolts come off without shearing I will be happy as a pig in ****!! So I am off there Monday morning to buy a new system.

I need some tyres next for the winter, but I am shying away from the price, cheapest I can find for 4 half decent tyres is £300 The front ones are down to 3mm with sidewall wear from kerbing I presume? So I will have to cough up yet again.

One saving grace was the road tax, my renewal for my old car (05 plate 2.0 petrol Mondeo) came in today ay £245 and the Disco one arrived at the same time at £205 so I have saved a bit this month.

I plan to keep the Disco for a few years so replacing the parts is not so bad as it will last me, but the wife don’t see it that way!

I lost a grand on the Mondeo in depreciation in 10 months the Disco wont do that, mind you I stuck my finger right through the N/S A post this week and the sills are crumbling at the rear end both sides, you can distort them by pressing each side at the arch and big blisters show from behind the plastic cover. I still say the MOT was very lenient to say the least, as it was only 8 weeks ago that I bought it with a new MOT. But I can weld so I will do the work and have satisfaction that it is done correctly, I will replace them with 3mm box section ones.

I just love driving it and that’s what counts for me……………………….. Despite that I cannot get the bleeding cruise control to work, found 2 split pipes cut them back and re-fixed them and still nothing apart from the switch illuminating?? I need to do some proper research on how it works.

I got the new exhaust system today inc the de-cat pipe.

The old one all came off easy as I cut it off so it was going great, then I hit a snag no way could i get the de-cat pipe in position, it just would not have it. So I came on here did a search and found you need to jack up the body away from the suspension.

So blocks of wood and a big bottle jack soon had it jacked up and I then had room to twist it into position. It is a Britpart exhaust and fitted together very well and seems quite a thick guage steel. At under £70 for the whole system I am very happy.

Took me 3 hours to do the job as i spent a good hour trying to figure out why it would not fit. I now can hear the turbo whistle and there is definitely more power when pulling away, but there is a lot of smoke which I never noticed before? So I am hoping it will clear.

I had the smoke when i removed mine, it cleared after a few hours driving.

Certainly makes a difference.

i had it as well when i changed my de-cat but as said above it cleared after a few hours

Thanks for the replies on the smoking guys, i thought another problem was going to rear its ugly head.

Fingers crossed it will clear today as I have a good run to take it on.

More troubles but i am still griining (just) I had to hit the brakes tonight and the peddle was solid and it was very slow to stop I could not press any harder on that peddle and I ended up inches from this other car!!!

What am i looking at now? Servo or vacum pump, master cylinder etc?

sounds like your abs is working as it should if fitted.

Hi no the ABS has kicked in before when stopping on a muddy road and the peddle pulsed, this just did not want to stop as though the brakes were not working at first then slowly did?

Hi, try Camskill tyres if you can have them fitted, a big saving, and they deliver to your door, also top brands.

Brakes failed again today in a car park I almost rolled into a parked car, the peddle was just rock solid and it took all the pressure i could put on the peddle to stop it at 2mph if that

I looked under the bonnet to check the brake fluid etc and followed the pipework from the servo and found the vacum pump and the front was hanging loose and 2 bolts were missing. Tightened the remaining ones up, luckily I had a torx screwdriver set in the back of the car and it drove home ok so need to replace those bolts ASAP

So hopefully an easy fix!
