This is something i would seriously consider in the future for mine, having driven a 3.1 TD Trooper for a while before, its a seriously torquey and long-lasting engine thats very nice to drive with. It also sounds pretty sweet for a diesel too!

Has anyone had any experience/know anyone thats done it? Im guessing the labour, cost of a conversion kit and an engine would bump it up to well over a grand to get done.
Id also love to stick a Trooper gearbox in it too, but im not sure it would go in!

Enlighten me!:D

Don't know anything about fitting them but I would say to anybody to stay well clear of the later 3 litre common rail Trooper engines. They had loads of power and were great on the road but as my brother and many like him found out to their cost, they could go pop in a very expensive way at any moment! If you have one get rid quick! The 3.1 on the otherhand (me dad's got one with 120k+ on) seems pretty damn bulletproof and if they fit, would make a defender on hell of a good car. Good luck!

Yeah, the new 3.0 ones are far more electrical, which is probably where the problems lie...
My Dads also has about 120K on it, and it hasnt so much as flinched in its life. Still has bags of power, 175bhp IIRC, and im guessing even more torque.

Im hoping he'll get rid when the value of the car is too low to bother selling, it and give the engine and box to me!
